Being Special

Published on : Wednesday 28th April 2004

Members of the public, local organisations, councillors and officers from the 'Special Constabulary' and Hertfordshire Police Service met at Rushes Restaurant in Borehamwood recently for a very 'Special' occasion.

A dedicated Police vehicle for the Hertsmere Specials was presented to District Commandant Roy Aldwin by Chris Schwick and Norman Shuker from Pinnacle Insurance, principal sponsors of the car.

Norman Shuker, Pinnacle's Chief Executive said:
"We are delighted to be assisting the local Specials with the purchase of this vehicle. As one of the area's major employers we have a real heart for this community and we are pleased that the car will be used for a wide variety of initiatives in Hertsmere."

Royal Aldwin from the Specials added:
"This generous support by Pinnacle and the co-sponsors, Borehamwood Community Patnership and the Town Council, will enable us to use our limited resources far more effectively. The car will facilitate extra patrols which will help curb anti-social behaviour and nuisance crimes as well as giving us the chance to police local events with greater ease."

Those who attended the presentation at Rushes, located in Studio Way, had the chance to give the car the once over, hear about the work of the Specials and the chance to sign up if they wished.
